Carnival in Pordenone: culture taken seriously

The month kicks off on Sunday 1 February with two events. At 3.30 pm, at the Museo Archeologico del Friuli Occidentale, the themed tour ‘Imperium. The Villa of Pordenone’ takes visitors on a journey of discovery through the Roman villa at Torre, exploring artefacts and daily life during the Imperial era. At 5.00 pm, the Museo di Storia Naturale Silvia Zenari presents ‘Discovering the Sky’, with stargazing sessions open to all ages.

Also from 1 February, the Palazzo del Fumetto is exhibiting illustrations from the book *Gera'n'antra volta*, a project by Creazioni Indigeste that revives local fairy tales, legends and folk tales, giving a voice to the oral traditions of local communities.

The programme continues on Saturday 7 February at 5.00 pm with the opening, at the Museo di Storia Naturale, of the photographic exhibition *Images from the New World: Biodiversity of Latin American Fauna* by Patrizio Maniero – a visual journey through Central and South America – which runs until 3 May.

On Sunday 8 February at 3.30 pm, the Harry Bertoia Gallery is hosting a guided tour of the exhibition *Robert Doisneau: The Gaze That Tells a Story*, dedicated to the great French photographer and his everyday Paris.

To mark Darwin Day, on Thursday 12 February at 4.30 pm, the Museo di Storia Naturale is hosting a themed tour entitled ‘Beautiful by Nature! Animal Strategies for Winning Love’, an exploration of evolution, beauty and animal behaviour.

On Saturday 14 February, the new photography exhibition by Stefanie Moshammer opens at the Museo Civico d'Arte - Palazzo Ricchieri. The exhibition forms part of the “Sul Leggere” programme of Verso Pordenone 2027 and is dedicated to family memories and the value of everyday objects. On the same afternoon, from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm, the Museo di Storia Naturale is hosting a family workshop: ‘Saturday at the Museum: let’s have a Carnival party at the bottom of the sea!’.

The Carnival spirit continues on Sunday 15 February at 3.30 pm with ‘Little and Big Carnival Designers’, a family workshop at the Museo Civico d'Arte dedicated to creating masks and costumes inspired by the works in the collection.

On Tuesday 17 February at 6.00 pm, the Museo Diocesano d'Arte Sacra will host the launch of the catalogue for the exhibition *Pietro Giacomo Nonis: Living One’s Time through Faith and Art*, as part of the temporary exhibition which opened on 15 January.

The programme concludes on Sunday 22 February at 3.30 pm with a guided tour of the exhibition *Images from the New World* at the Museo di Storia Naturale.

Carnevale al Museo are also back during the school holidays: on Monday 16 February at the Museo di Storia Naturale, Tuesday 17 February at the Museo Civico d'Arte, and Wednesday 18 February at the Museo Archeologico di Torre – three mornings dedicated to children aged 6 to 10.
