On the ground floor of the museum, you can admire a display of nature’s most beautiful treasures from around the world. Among them, the forms, transparency and brilliance of crystals stand out. But how do they form? Magma, trapped underground at high temperatures, cools down very slowly over time, in a process of gradual movement toward the surface from the depths of the Earth. Over this immense timespan, a cavity can form within the magma, giving rise to a geode: a solid structure that appears as rock on the outside, yet is lined with crystals inside.
The Celestine geode from the Sakoany deposit in Madagascar is so beautiful that it alone is worth the visit to the museum.
